Convergence

-The interlocking and merging of mass media technologies, traditional media and digital media into one.

-The most relevant example of media convergence is a Smartphone that blends together various media: making calls, taking pictures, editing pictures, shopping online, editing videos, listening to music, watching films, accessing print media etc.

One advantage of convergence is that it makes what you want to do very efficient, as all things will be very accessible.

One disadvantage is that tangible media products become obsolete.

During pre-production, Microsoft Teams is used to host and attend important planning meetings when creating a film. This is a good example of convergence, because teams working on a project can log onto Microsoft Teams using smartphones, tables and laptops globally. This is an advantage because people don't need to be gathered in a room together, but instead use the WIFI or data. Additionally, Microsoft Teams supports sharing pre-production document (initial storyboards/moodboards) digitally on Teams so that they can be remotely edited or adapted, resulting in pro instant feedback to ensure deadlines are met.

During marketing, cookies are used to track the audience and what they are viewing on social media and websites. An advantage of this is that the information can be used to show the viewer advertisements that they wish to see that fits in to the websites and account or products that they are watching. One disadvantage is that it can draw privacy concerns to the audience and cause people to not want to view websites and social media profiles due to a lack of privacy.
